[Bill - promotion of Education] On motion by Mr. Washburn the Bill for the promotion of education was returned to the House of Representatives that the amendments thereto may be corrected by the House, (corrected and returned) [Pet. town of Waterboro] Report on the petition of the town of Waterborough granting leave to bring in a Resolve, accepted and sent down for concurrence and the Senate concurred.
[Bill requiring towns to fence grave yards] Bill requiring towns to fence Grave Yards was read once, tomorrow 10 o'clock assigned for a second reading and committed to Messrs. Dennett, Herrick and Miller. [Resolve in favor of several towns in the County of York] Resolve in favor of several towns in the County of York was taken up and passage refused, the yeas and nays were ordered and stood as follows [Yeas and Nays] Yeas - Messrs. Dennett, Sweat, Emery, Miller, Cushman, Grover and Weston -7 Nays Messrs. Megquier, Mace, Kavanagh, Richardson, Herrick, Shaw, Balkam. Williams, Cutler, Washburn & Parsons - 11 Mr. Dennett gave notice that he should tomorrow at 11 o'clock move a reconsideration of this vote. [Resolve - Sheriffs] Resolve respecting Sheriffs was taken up and the Senate having reconsidered their former vote committed the same to Messrs. Miller & others [Message from H.R. informing elect of J. Chandler] Message from the House of Representatives that they had elected Joseph Chandler Major General of the second Division of the Militia in concurrence with the Senate.
