On motion by Mr Parsons ordered that when the Senate adjourn they adjourn to meet again this afternoon at three o clock -

[Committee to draft Rules & Orders] On motion by Mr Dane - ordered that Messrs Dane Kingsbury and Emerson be appointed a committee to draft Rules and orders for the government of the senate the current year

[Returns of votes for Governor brot in by Secy of State] The Secretary of State came in and laid on the table the returns of votes for Governor given in the several towns and plantations in this State and the same were on motion referred to Messrs Holbrook Page and Parsons with such as the House may join sent down for concurrence and messes Boutelle Smith Stephens, Lord and Perkins were joined -

[Chaplain time assigned for choice of] On motion by Mr Cushman ordered that eleven o clock tomorrow be assigned for coming to the choice of Chaplain of the Senate and that nomination lists be suspended

[Messenger chosen] On motion by Mr Gardiner ordered that the Senate now proceed to choose by ballot a Messenger. Messrs Gardiner Hilton and Bodwell were appointed a committee to receive sort and count the votes who having attended that duty reported that the whole number of votes given was 16 necessary to constitute an election 9 Samuel Haynes had 15 John Merrill 1 Samuel Haynes was declared elected and the Secretary was directed to notify him of his election
