Dear Sir
Mr. Edwin B Patten of this city is very desirous of some place in the army and would prefer the position of Quarter Master. I have know Mr. Patten for a long time and receive great pleasure in stating that from such knowledge and from the testimony of others who are better judges than myself, I have no doubt he is well qualified for such a position, and it would be gratifying to me as well as to many others if he could receive such an appointment.
