The petition of Samuel Coney for remuneration for certain services; " of the Portland Female Orphan Asylum for an allowance for certain furniture, were severally read, and referred to the committee on Claims, in concurrence.

The petition of certain inhabitants of Belgrade, that the soldier, who performs military duty, shall be exempt from a poll tax, was read referred to the committee on the Militia, in concurrence.

The petition of the inhabitants of Atkinson, that the ministerial fund in said town may be appropriated for the support of primary schools, was read and referred to the committee on the Judiciary, in concurrence.

The petition of the proprietors of side booms in Androscoggin river for increase of toll came up from the House referred to Messrs Magourn, Dunlap, and Patten, with such as the Senate may join concurred and the Senate join Messrs Merril and Groton.

Order from the House of Representatives, appointing Messrs Boyd, Dummer and Jarvis with such as the Senate may join, a committee to enquire into the expediency of abolishing the office of Reporter of the Supreme Judicial Court, read and passed, and Messrs Keith and Ingalls were joined.
