Surgeon in some Maine regiment. He can have an appointment in regular army but would prefer for present to be in regt. from his own state--I think he can produce testimonials of high character. He seems to be a young man of promise and I have no doubt [ ] be a very valuable assistant--wants it be [ ] that he go to Maine for an examination before his appointment if his recommendation were satisfactory?
