An order came from the Senate instructed the committee on Literary Institutions to inquire into the expediency of making an appropriation either in money or in land to the Lewiston Falls Academy and the House concurred.
On motion of Mr Johnson of Cornish
Ordered, That Messrs Johnson of Cornish Robinson of Hallowell and Spaulding of Norridgewock be a committee to enquire into the expediency of repealing so much of the 15th section of an Act entitled an act to provide for the Education of Youth" passed March 11th 1834 as requires the Selectmen of the several towns and Assessors of the several Plantation to make returns to the Secretary of State. Sent up for concurrence.
Mr Holmes of Alfred after submitting to the House appropriate prefatory remarks laid upon the Clerks Desk the following Resolution
Resolved, That the thanks of this House be presented to Hon Thomas Davee for his able and faithful services as Speaker - That while he has presided over our deliberations with ability and impartiality, he has always evinced a magnanimous and delicate regard to the rights and feelings of the minority while he has enforced our rules with promptness and decision, he has never departed from the deportment and suavity of the gentleman that while we regret that any cause should withdraw him from the place he has filled with so much honor to himself, satisfaction to the House, and benefit to the State, we wish him cordially a safe return to his family and friends; and all the rewards which are due to the honorable, faithful and virtuous. and the same was unanimously passed.
