�let us sympathize with the citizens of our sister state New Hampshire the native state of him who is Maines Fallen Member in the National Congress though some of the citizens of our own state & town claim him as their particular friend[three words underlined] & claim it as their particular privilege to notice his death in their particular & partial manner, Yes Sir the members of this meeting would wish to speak of him as every true hearted Republican in the State & Union should speak of him, & as a man who was worthy the esteem of all men. Yes Sir this meeting Recognizes no exclusive privileges It calls upon all the high & the low the Rich & the poor to come & mingle their [illegible word] tears together in Sincerity, in grief & in Sorrow for the loss by a premature death of one of their fellow Statesmen & neighbouring Townsmen, a Sincere Politician, a Republican, connected by blood with the assenters[?] & defenders of American Independence a Man of rare & very high attainments a Bold Patriotic & able defender of his own Rights & the Rights of Mankind. he had in common, with us, the welfare of his own dear native Country at heart & he has fallen a Martyr Sir, to the liberty of Speech
