Dec 13th 1864 Cold and windy. We lay quiet all day. I went to the 1st Me Cavelry to see the boys. 14th A fair day. We moved fifty rods and pitched our tents. 15th Orders to build winter quarters and went to work P.M. 16th Building quarters 17th No news of importence 18th Look like rain. No news 19th Showery 20th Rained hard all night 21st Rained hard this forenoon 22d Rained most all day. Cleard off cold all night 23d Fair and cold Wm D King started home on a furlow of fifteen days. Good news from Gen Thomas 24th I went to the 1st Me Cav'y. 25th 26th 27th All quiet. Good news 28th Capt Land [Joseph F Land] and Sargt Rogers [Frank M Rogers] went to city point. Tim Drue came to see me. 29th Looks like rain. 30th Good news. I helped make out the pay rolls. 31st It comensed raining last night and continued all day. Good news from Sherman, Thomas, and Butler.
