Hon I. Washburn
Dear Sir
Before the receipt of your two letters to Charles, he had left for Washington where he was summoned unexpectedly by government to appear and testify in a case concerning Genl Martindale.
He made arrangement to go to Augusta last Wednesday, on purpose to see you, but felt obliged to leave for Washington on that day.
We expect him here the last of the week and he will make you a visit soon after his return for the purpose of ascertaining what can be done for the 2nd Maine Regiment.
Yours truly A.M. Roberts.
