My dear Sir,
I have several names asking the appointment of Dan'l Staples to the place of a Lieut. given him before any vacancy existed. [?] Lieut. of Co. K 2nd Maine I understand has resigned and Staples I think is a sargeant in that Co. The paper I hear is signed by Gen'l Jameson & I believe by the officer / Col etc of the Reg't. If no one has been fixed on for the place, shall I present this paper for your consideration?
