Dear Sir

In my letter of yesterday accepting the offer of Lt Col in the 16th Reg. I stated that I should immediately resign my position as Captain in this Regt. and report myself at Augusta at an early day. I have since seen the General in the matter and he informs me that I cannot be released from my present situation, until I receive the commission as Lt. Col. in the above Regt. This being the case, I have thought it best to advise you of the fact. I trust the necessary document may be received at an early day--
