� State of Maine KENNEBEC COUNTY, ss. ON this seventh [handwritten] day of June [handwritten], 1820, personally appeared before [stricken] in open court before [handwritten] Judge of [stricken] the Circuit Court of Common Pleas, for the Counties of Lincoln, Kennebec and Somerset, being a Court of Record for said Counties, proceeding according to the course of the common law, having original jurisdiction, unlimited in amount, keeping a record of their proceedings, and having the power of fine and imprisonment, John Croxford [handwritten] aged sixty seven [handwritten] years, resident in Newburgh [handwritten] in the County of Penobscot, now at Augusta [handwritten] within said Circuit, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth, on his oath, declare that he served in the Revolutionary war as follows, viz. in the Company commanded by Captain Jabez Lane [handwritten] and Regiment commanded by Colonel Nixon [handwritten] of the line of the State of Massachusetts [handwritten] upon the Continental Establishment, for the period of [handwritten] three years; having previously served twenty months in Col Phinney's Mass'tts Regt - and also thirteen months in Col Brooks Mass'tts Reg't as the close of the war - making in the whole five years nine months [underlined] I was in both of the battles at the taking of Burgoyne

[pre-printed with handwritten insertions and deletions] that his original declaration was made before Judge Kinsley [handwritten] on the first [handwritten] day of April [handwritten] 1818; that he is now on the [something stricken] Maine [inserted] Roll, and that his pension certificate is numbered 9.169 . And I, the said John Croxford [handwritten] do further solemnly swear, that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the eighteenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen; and that I have not, since that time, by gift, sale, or in any manner whatever, disposed of my property, or any part thereof, with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress, entitled "An Act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States, in the Revolutionary War," passed on the eighteenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighteen; and that I have not, not has any person in trust for me, any property or securities, contracts or debuts, due to me; nor have I any income, other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed, and by me subscribed. The following is a Schedule of my whole Estate and income, necessary clothing and bedding excepted, viz: [handwritten] 1 Cow of the value of fifteen dollars 6 Sheep + two lambs -- nine dollars old furniture stuff (beds necessary bedding) twelve dollars I have no [stricken] debts due me to the amount of ten dollars. I have no trade or profession, my occupation is that of a farmer, but am by means of age + infirmity unable to labor. I have also a very bad rupture. My family consists of myself, my wife Wilmah aged sixtyone years + of feeble health and able to do little but light labor such as knitting -- Except the above and my necessary clothing and bedding I have no Estate or income subscribed, sworn to and declared John Croxford [signature] both the oath and schedule, on the seventh day of June 1820 Before Me, Nathan Weston Jr Judge C.C.C.
