We came back abought 2 miles last night and stoped the rest of the night.  this morning we started again and marched all day came to the [unintelligible word] river and halted the rest of the night. went out foraging to get something for our horses. The word is that there are 20,000 Rebels at the river to stop us from crossing over again.

Tuesday, 5.

This morning we got up and saddled up ready to start at sunrise but did not stand still abought 4 oclock in the afternoon. We marched all night and until 10 oclock the next morning before we halted we halted a few moments to get us some coffee. we expected to meet the rebels. but did not see eny. We came on the Orange Court House road.

Wednesday, 6.

We halted abought 10 oclock this morning for a little while. and then started on again marchec till 4 oclock, halted. for 2 hours. started again. and marched all night did not start till day light. came to the Rapidan River and crossed at Raccoon Ford we are pretty well tired out. not having had much sleep for the last 8 days. it has rained all day night. the roads are mud.

We crossed the Rapidan at Raccoon ford this morning at day light. halted, and fed our horses and got something to eat for ourselves. we are now within one days march of the Rappahannock again. we have made a pretty big raid on the Rebels. Burnt Rail roads bridges &c, have been within 3 miles of Richmoon. We started at noon and marched to the Rappahannock river.

Friday, 8.

We halted near the river last night and this morning abought 9 oclock we forded the river at Kelleys Ford. the water was pretty deep for we had to swim our horses. we crossed over and halted. till abought 4 oclock P.M. then marched up the river to Rappahannock Station and from there to Bealton Station. got there at 10 oclock and went into Camp.

Well we have got back from our Raid. have been gone 9 days, marching most of the time. day and night. during that time we have done considerable damage to the Rebs, the battle of Fredricksburg has been fought. I dont know how that we have made it. I have not seen a paper for a fortnight, we remained in Camp to day at Bealton Station. Recived 3 letters. The weather has hot to day.
