2 [Choice of president] The Presidents of the Convention having retired the members of the Senate proceeded to the choice of a president when receiving sorting & counting the votes they were found as [?] viz. whole number fifteen
Hon. John Chandler had fourteen & was chosen
The Hon. Mr Chandler addressed the Senate expressing his grateful sense of honor confirmed accepted & took the chair
[Choice of Secretary] The Senate then proceeded to the choice of Secretary & when receiving, sorting & counting the votes it appeared that Ebenezer Herrick, Esq. was unanimously chosen
Mr Herrick being notified of this election appeared in the Senate [Chamber] signified his acceptance of the office & took & subscribed the oaths required by the Constitution to qualify him to discharge his duties

The Hon. Mr. Williamson was charged with a message to the Hon. House to acquaint them Hon. John Chandler was chosen President & Ebenezer Herrick [Esq.] Secretary of the Senate
[Message sent down] The Hon. Mr. Moody was charged with a like message to the Presidents of the Convention
[Votes laid on table] The Secretary of State pro Tempore came in & laid upon the table the returns of votes by several towns & plantations in the state for Governor & Senators
