After breakfast division moved across the battlefield into the Hagerstown road and then beyond into position facing Sharpsburg our line of battle nearly perpendicularly to the turnpike- Had just got into position when order came from Gen. McClellen to push up over toward the river.

              We have now reached the 

river and our troops are in position. The enemy have crossed and have their batteries lining the hills on the opposite side of the river. Artillery officer thinks we shall have an artillery fight soon.
