Polis Stanislaus

We had but one or two of the name of Stanislaus. Old Polis Stanislaus was of a different tribe & married in. He was drowned at the seashore - {porpoise hunting; his canoe washed ashore.}

Old Polis wore a long goatee at a time when beards were never seen. He was of a quiet & obliging but very persistent disposition. When setting traps & a place was pointed out which he did not like very well he always applied his formula - The conversation was about as follows always.

"Polis, there's a good place to set a trap." "Jes so you think so" (Still paddling) "Better try it?" "Jes so you speak so." (Still paddling) "It looks well." "Jes so you say so" (Paddling on) "Now hadnt we better go in?" "Jes so you mind to." (By this time they were past)
