   September second, fifty two-
   Now, Ladoc[?] let me say to you,
   If I could any better[underline] do,
   I would not dissipate my time
   In spinning trifles into rhyme[underline]
   So, till you shall have leisure ample,[underline]
   Pray do not follow my example,
   But tend to other matters, first
   And do as I do when you must[underline from do till must]
   If your ambition is to be
   A merchant of celebrity,
   What time, except to eat, & sleep,
   And exercise your health to keep, [underline from exercise to keep]
   Remains to you, must all be paid
   The art & mystery of Trade:-
   To inventories & accounts,-
   To bills & bargains bought and sold,
   And payments made in draughts or gold;-
   To prices, qualities, & cost,
   And what is gain'd, or what is lost;-
   To profits which good conscience takes,
   And how much difference Credit[underlined] makes,
   To pleasing folks, & winning custom,
   And knowing when[underlined] when, or not, to trust  em-
   And other things innumerable,
   Enough is crowd a volume full,
   Of ways, & means, & methods wise,
   To insure success in merchandise
