Be it Remembered that I Joseph Swett of York in the county of York and Province of the Massachusetts Bay in New England gentlemen do by their presents covenant and agree to and with Patience Nowell- Relect and Widow of Ebenezer Nowell Late of York- aforesaid [yeoman?] Deceas'd in manner following Viz that within one month from the date hereof I will enter into the State of Matrimony with and take to wife the said Patience according to the Laws and wage of this Province without any Desire of any estate either real of personall, that now doth or hereafter may come or any ways appertain to the said Patience either as her Right of Dowry to her late Husbands estate or any other ways and I do- hereby promise to give the said Patience (if she shall survive me) within six months after my Decease the sum of one hundred pounds lawfull money of their Province to be paid to her or her heirs executors or administrators by my heirs
