Remonstrance of John O'Brien against the petition of the Trustees of Brunswick academy for a grant of land - was read & referred to the committee on so much of the Governor message as relates to Literature &c. Sent up for concurrence.

[Report on Augusta Deed.]

The report of the joint committee on the subject of the deed of a lot of land from Joshua Gage Esquire & als of Augusta to the State, was taken up, and the same so far accepted as to bring the Resolve reported by said committee before the House for consideration.

The House then took up the subject of the resolve - Mr Parons of Edgecomb moved "that the further consideration of the subject be postponed till the year 1827 & that in the meantime the Legislature take measures for ascertaining the sense of the people as to the place at which the seat of government shall be permanently established" which motion prevailed 77 to 65.
