Believing the time has arrived, when a vacancy must of necesity [necessity] exist in the office of Indian Agent at this place, I would recommend to your favorable consideration James A. Purinton as a man well qualified for that office; and were there no other applicants in the field could (I have no doubt) present you with a petition signed by every Republican in town.
As a man he has the confidence of our community having for several years held the office of Clerk & Treasurer of this town.
I also believe his appointment would be as satisfactory to as many of the Tribe as any
