�22 The 2d Maine Vols start home

    20th  I went to the station to see the 2d Me regt start for home.

21st Went to the old 2d Me regt camp to see Gilmon Gould. A drunken man was bound to fight with me but I happled[?] him. 22d Moved [illegible] the picketline.into the brigade for actual service. 23d some of the 2d Me boys came to the regt for duty. 24th Gilman Gould to Co H for duty. We had a brigade drill and parade at night. 28th Started for the U.S Ford. got there in the evening. 29th A picket was detailed and I was with the rest. We can see the enemy across the river and talk with them. They mistrust an atack[sic]. two of our men went in swimming and met two of the rebs in the middle of the river and shook hands and passed the time of day and then returned their own shores. The rebs say Mc Clellan is our head man. 30th We come off picket. 31st Wrote letters home. Sunday it fair day.
