to take men that are not fully Schoold [Schooled] and disciplined for immediate and active Service, it strikes me that He (I believe I am not presumeing [presuming]) is of the very Material they want. I have written Him today to obtain Some expression from His officers at Washington and if you desire will forward the same to you when rec'd, but I have had assurances of His Bravery, Patriotism and good deportment and a desire from the Capt that “He might be promoted in the Army.”
I believe He has done His duty every day as a Soldier which is very arduous as only about 1/4 of the Regt are on duty of late.
If you will be kind enough to intercede for Him at the department as early as practicable and advise me in the matter I shall be under great obligation.
With much Resp't I am Sir yours Truly Joseph Forbes
