I was not aware of anything of this kind or I should not have allowed you to appoint him as Surgeon for the 2d. Still it is my opinion that Dr. Morrison would be an excellent assistant - I would want no better, and where [?] was a good Brigade Surgeon he would do very well as a Surgeon, however I think Dr. Morrison had better not accept the appointment of surgeon for the 2d Regt & I will so advise him. |

P.S. The “existing circumstances” alluded to is a strong prejudice of the officers against Dr. Morrison, which would make it impossible for him, however faithful, to give satisfaction. I was not aware of anything of this kind or I should not have allowed you to appoint him as Surgeon for the 2d. Still it is my opinion that Dr. Morrison would be an excellent assistant - I would want no better, and where [?] was a good Brigade Surgeon he would do very well as a Surgeon, however I think Dr. Morrison had better not accept the appointment of surgeon for the 2d Regt & I will so advise him.
