My dear Uncle,
Without intruding on your time, & wearying your patience by needless apologies, & a recapitulation of facts well known to yourself, I hasten to congratulate you, & well as myself, that the time has at last arrived, when those feelings of friendship, which you have expressed for our family may have a field for exercise ample as our utmost wishes could desire.
There are two Officers, the emoluments of which would meet the expenses of our family. The Clerk's & High Sheriffs. The latter of these is thought to be decidedly at your disposal, & for this W. B. is doubtless, best qualified. I know it is asking much, & others undoubtedly feel that their claims & qualifications are equal, if not superior. But allowing an equality in this respect, I trust the well known situation of our family will be deemed a sufficient reason for my asking & your granting so large a favour.
I feel that I stand on ground similar, in many respects, to that on which Esther stood when she went
