There is perhaps an other reason in favor of the present candidate. Not more than one third of the inhabitants of this county live on western side this river. The Judge of Probate; County Attorney, & two _______ out of those of the previous are already on that side. For ten years past no office of any consequence has been bestowed on a republican east of the river & I know of no one that is desired except that of sheriff.

The above observations are underwritten with much deference by your Excellency. When I had the pleasure of seeing you at Portland last fall, you did me the honor to ask me to write you. I have taken that liberty — I then contemplated giving to Nomozwock but have since settled at this place.

The people in this part of the country seem happy in being an independent state and under their present chief magistrate — should there ever be a time when the ______ of our union & of our country combine against him I think they will give him a warm & satisfactory support.
