D.B. Hinckley told me that he had rec'd a letter from his son Sam that he had a good prospect for Lieutenantcy in his company, and that Sam was fearful you would not confirm the Election which is understood here to be necessary
The first part of the story I believe, but that Sam wrote any thing about confirmation I don’t believe – that originated with the father – I hope you will find it consistent with your sense of duty to confirm his Election and I hope if you do not you will not confirm it –
