The Committee on engrossed bills reported as duly engrossed Bill – in addition to an act to incorporate the Canal Bank - which was passed to be enacted. Sent up for concurrence.
Agreeably to assignment the House proceeded by ballot to the election on their part, of a Major General for the 4th Division – and the votes being counted it appeared the whole number given in was One hundred and thirty four – necessary to a choice Sixty eight – Brig. Genl Richard T Dunlap had ninety votes & he was declared elected.
The House took up the consideration of the Bill to prevent mischief by setting and carelessly managing of fires – and after receiving sundry propositions to amend, the subject was referred to Messrs Warren of Palmyra, Spring of Biddeford & Evans of Gardiner.
A message was received from the Governor dated Feby 2nd 1826 [See Appendix page 275] transmitting a copy of a communication from the Commissioners under the Act of Separation, which with the accompanying papers were referred in concurrence with the Senate to the Committee on State Lands.
Bill – dividing the town of Baldwin & incorporating the town of Sebago, reported with sundry amendments which were adopted, was read a 2d time & tomorrow at 10 oclock assigned for a 3d reading.
