State of Maine

Whereas by a resolve of the Legislature of this State of the 21st of March, 1821, the Governor, with the advice of Council, is authorized to convey to the United States al the right, title, and interest, which this State has in and to Pond Island, situated near the mouth of Kennebec River, for the purpose of erecting and maintaining thereon a Light House, reserving to this State jurisdiction in concurrence with the United States over the same and the Inhabitants thereof, so far as maybe necessary to the execution of the Laws of the State.

Now, therefore, I William King, Governor of said State, with the advice and consent of the Council, in pursuance of the authority granted by the aforesaid resolve, do hereby transfer, alien, convey and release to the said United States, all the right, title and interest, which this State has in and to said Island, and every part thereof, for the purpose aforesaid; reserving to the State jurisdiction in concurrence with the United States, over the same and the Inhabitants thereof, so far as may be necessary to execute the laws of this State; and reserving to individuals all rights which they may have to said Island, or any part thereof.

To have and to hold to the said United States and their assigns for the purpose aforesaid, to their sole and exclusive use forever

In Testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the Seal of the State to be hereto affixed, this eleventh day of May in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty one
