State of Maine.

To all to whom these Presents shall come

Greeting:

[to the left is a circle with "Seal." inside it and "Albion K. Parris," written under it]

Know Ye, that Albion K. Parris, our governor, reposing special trust and confidence in the integrity, ability and discretion of David Gurney, of Bath, in the county of Lincoln Esquire, hath nominated, and with the advice and consent of our Council, appointed the said David Gurney, Inspector of Butter and Lard, for the State.

We, therefore, do hereby authorize and empower him to fulfil the duties of that Office according to law; and to have and to hold the same, together with all the powers, privileges and emoluments thereto of right appertaining, unto him, the said David Gurney, for the term of four years, if he shall so long behave himself well in said office, unless sooner removed by the Governor and Council for the time being.

In testimony whereof, We have caused these letters to be made Patent, and our Seal to be hereunto affixed. Witness our Governor, at the Council Chamber, in Portland, the tenth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty four; and of the Independence of the United States the forty ninth.

State of Maine.

County of Lincoln ss: on the twentieth day of October A.D. 1824, personally appeared Daniel Gurney of Bath in said county of Lincoln and took and subscribed the oaths prescribed by the Constitution of this State and a law of the United States to qualify him to discharge and execute the duties of the Office of Inspector of Butter and Lard within and for the State aforesaid to which he was appointed and commissioned on the 10th of Sept A.D. 1824.
