To all persons to whom these Presents shall come,

Greeting:

Whereas, before our Supreme Judicial Court, begun and holden at Portland, within and for the County of Cumberland, on the first Tuesday of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty three; Patrick Cole, of Brunswick, in said County of Cumberland, Laborer, as convicted of the Crime of Manslaughter; and thereupon by our said Court was sentenced to be punished by three months solitary imprisonment, and to four years hard labor, within the State’s Gaol in the said County of Cumberland; a part of which remains to be executed; and he the said Patrick Cole, has humbly supplicated Us for mercy:

Now, Know Ye, That, upon full consideration of the premises, We do hereby remit to him the said Patrick Cole, that part of the punishment aforesaid, which yet remains to be executed in solitary imprisonment; of which all our Judges, Justices, Magistrates and Officers of every denomination are to take notice.

Witness, Albion K. Parris, our Governor; with the advice and consent of our Council, and our Seal hereunto affixed, at Portland, the seventeenth day of June, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty five; and in the forty ninth year of the Independence of the United States of America.
