Whereas His Excellency Samuel Dinsmore, Governor of the State of New Hampshire hath represented that one Edward B. Lewis[?], late of Somersworth in that State, colored person, charged with the crime of “Breaking and entering a Graveyard in said Somersworth, and digging up and carrying away the body of one Alpheus Brown,” is a fugitive from Justice, having fled to the State of Maine; and whereas a copy of the complaint made by Richard Bailey, charging under oath the said Lewis[?] with the crime aforesaid is produced; and the said Samuel Dinsmore, Governor as aforesaid, having agreeably to the constitution and a Law of the United States, demanded that the said Edward B. Lewis[?], a fugitive as aforesaid, be arrested and delivered to William Ives, appointed by the Governor of said State, Agent to receive the said fugitive, that he may be transported to that State and dealt with as to law and justice may appertain:

Now, therefore, I Robert P Dunlap, Governor of the State of Maine, by virtue of the Constitution of the United States, and a law of the same, as well as a law of this State, do require and command all and every of the offices of this State to arrest and deliver the said Edward B. Lewis, being a fugitive from Justice as aforesaid to the said William Ives, Agent as aforesaid for this purpose, specially appointed unless the said Edward B. Lewis be holden by such officers to answer for a violation of the Laws of this State. And the said Ives is hereby authorized to transport the said Edward B. Lewis to the line of the State of Maine on the way to the State of New Hampshire, at the proper expense and charge of the said Agent. And all civil Officers within this State are hereby commanded to afford the said William Ives all needful assistance in transporting the said Edward B. Lewis to the line of the State in execution of this Warrant.
