Petition of the Medical Society of Maine for authority to establish district or subordinate Societies, was read & referred to Messrs Shaw of Wiscasset, Phelps of Fairfield & Morse of Mt Vernon.
On motion of Mr Dwinal of Lisbon Ordered that the committee on the Judiciary, be directed to inquire, into the expediency of passing a law, authorizing Judges of Probate in this State to appoint guardians to married women, in certain cases, where their husbands have absconded and gone out of the State without making provision for their support - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.
On motion of Mr Whiting of Whiting, Ordered that the Senate be requested to take from their files and send down to this House the Petition of the Selectmen of Whiting which was made to the last Legislature & referred to the present. - read & passed. Sent up
Communications were received from Daniel Wood, Jonathan Thayer, Edward Fuller & Josiah Dunn Junior Counsellors elect signifying their acceptance.
Remonstrances of George Williams & als & of Inhabitants of Bowdoin against the petition of Smith Baker & als for a new town - were severally read & referred to the committee on the incorporation of towns. Sent up for concurrence
A message was received from the Senate by Mr Hutchinson their Secretary proposing a convention forthwith in the Representatives Chamber, for the purpose of qualifying such Counsellors elect, as have signified their acceptance.
