On motion of Mr. Wells of Freeport Ordered that the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of so altering the Act directing the method of laying out and making provision for the repair of highways, that towns may me empowered to discontinue and town road or private way &c  also to prohibit the Court of Sessions from laying out any town or private road when a majority of the inhabitants of such town are opposed to it  - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr. Smith of Portland - Ordered that the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of amending the law relating to donations to pious and charitable uses so far as to render all devises and bequests of real or personal estate to the uses aforesaid, absolutely void unless the same be made by will duly executed in the presence of five competent witnesses. Read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.
