Petition of Davis Wasgatt & als & report thereon, taken from the last years files, came from the Senate referred to the Committee on the incorporation of towns for concurrence, and the House concurred.

The House receded from their vote passing an order of notice on the Bill - an additional act for securing to owners their property in logs, masts, spars & other timber in certain cases, and then the Bill, was referred to Messrs Herrick of Lewiston, Abbot of Castine & Evans of Gardiner.

Bill - to incorporate the Fayette Musical Society, was called up and the House receded from their vote passing the Bill to be engrossed, and concurred the Senate in refusing the same a passage.

As communication was received from Amos Nichols, Esquire Secretary of State, informing the House, that owing to indisposition, he has by virtue of the power vested in him by the Constitution appointed Elliot G. Vaughan Esqr of Portland his Deputy - and that he has been duly qualified to act as such - read & placed on file. -

Bill - concerning Bible Societies, Religious Tract Societies & Societies for improvement in sacred Music, was read a 3rd time & passage refused. Sent up for concurrence.

Ordered that Messrs Smith of Newfield, Potter of Bowdoin & Weed of Hope be a committee with such as the Senate may join to devise some mode for the sale of a suitable proportion of public land for the purpose of establishing a Public Social Library in each of the towns in this State in proportion to the number of Scholars as returned to the Secretary office, or for the support of primary schools in the same proportion and upon the same principle with leave &c. read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.
