Monday January 10, 1831 Met according to adjournment -

A communication was received from the Speaker informing the House that he should not be able to attend in his place on this day on account of indisposition - & thereupon the House proceeded by ballot to the choice of Speaker pro tem. - the whole number of ballots given in was one hundred & twenty four necessary to constitute an election Sixty three - Benjamin White of Monmouth had one hundred & three & he was elected & being present took the chair & the Governor & Council & also the Senate were by message acquainted therewith

On motion of Mr. Drummer of Hallowell Ordered that a message be sent to the Senate proposing a Convention of both Branches tomorrow at eleven o'clock for the purpose of choosing by joint ballot a Treasurer of this State for the current year - & the Senate by message signified their concurrence therewith.

An order came from the Senate for concurrence appointing on their part the following joint standing Committees as follows - and the House concurred & joined to them on their part as follows viz.

On the Judiciary Messrs. Megquier Kingsbury Sweat } of the Senate

Messrs. Boutelle of Waterville Park of Bangor Barnard of Alna McCrate of Nobleboro Smith of Portland } of the House.

On Banks & Banking Messrs. Kingsbury Pike Ingalls } of the Senate

Messrs. Williams of Augusta Mitchell of Portland Gray of Bowdoinham Perkins of Kennebunkport Bryant of Castine } of the House
