The aforesaid Private Lewis R Haskell was a private in Company D 2ne Maine Vols commanded by Captain J. S. Sampson , whose signature is there to affixed. Haskell is a strong man., very energetic,and a man of integrity of character, was taken prisoner at the Battle of Manassas and if exchanged, we cheerfully and with pleasure recommend L.R. Haskell of Milo a fit man for a Lieut in the volunteers of this state and request your Excellency to appoint him a Lieut in the
