The aforesaid Private Lewis R Haskell was a private in Company "D" 2nd Maine Vols commanded by Captain J.S. Sampson, whose signature is thereto affixed. Haskell is a strong man, very energetic, and a man of integrity of character, was taken prisoner at the Battle of Manassas and if exchanged, we cheerfully and with pleasure recommend L.R.
