think it not impossible that Mr. Muniz may shortly be exchanged and if so should if he desired prefer him to anyone else. I do not think it necessary for me to have an election. Dr. Teft would have been unanimously elected and I was sorry he could not make it convenient to join us, as he is particularly adapted, in my opinion to acceptably perform the duties of army chaplain. By the way Capt. Sampson Company D having on account of ill health been discharged from the service I recommend the appointment (to "fill said vacancy) of Lieut W. W. Sturtevant now in command. Capt Sampson was a very worthy man but his disease being an afliction of the heart is of course incurable. The uniform of the recruits should be a heavy dark blue
