where we remained till 3 P.M. when we were again ordered forward to the support of Robinson's Brigade, and, in company with the 40th and 101st New York regiments, fought the enemy, driving them before us for sometime, till they were do heavily reinforced that we were compelled to fall back, which we did in good order ( see note at bottom of page) our loss during the day was 7 killed 33 wounded and 7 missing, out of little more than 200 engaged, many of our men having been compelled to fall out from lameness or exhaustion during the forced march from the Rappahannock on Wednesday and Thursday previous. Colonel Walker had his horse shot under him in the afternoon engagement - Saturday ( 30th ) our regiment remained in the rear nearly all day.- The fighting along the lines was irregular and scattering through the forenoon, but became general about noon : and towards night the enemy had gained such an advantage that our division was ordered to abandon it's position on the right and retire towards the left and center, which it did, securing only a very short distance to the rear, however, and taking up a position when, through already pressed and almost surrounded by the enemy, we held our ground till 10 P.M., when we retired directly to the rear, crossing Bull Run, and joining in the retreat towards Centerville, which place we reached early Sunday morning ( 31st ) - Four of our videttes, left behind at the last position we occupied at

Note : only right companies were in the afternoons engagement above described- two companies I & K under the command of Lt. Colonel Carver being detached to support a battery - The loss of these two companies is included in the list of
