To the Senate and House of Representatives, Having received and accepted the resignation of Joseph Chandler, Major General of the second Division of the Militia of this State, I now make known to the two Houses of the Legislature that a vacancy exists in the office of Major General of the Division. Council Chamber Saml. E. Smith February 28, 1832 which message came from the Senate and was read and sent up.
Bill additional for organizing and governing the Militia being under consideration, Mr. Cilley moved to amend the same by striking out all after the first section and making provision for but for one training in the year which amendment having been amended, the question upon adopting the same was taken by yeas and nays and decided in the negative as follows, yeas 67, nays 85. The Bill was ten laid on the table.
Bill to establish the rate of interest and to restrain the taking of excessive usury, was read a third time and passed to be engrossed. Sent up for concurrence.
Resolve in favor of the Orphan Asylum in Portland - in favor of the County of Kennebec - in favor of Samuel Seavey and Thomas Tourdy were severally read once and tomorrow at ten o'clock assigned for a second reading.
Resolve for completing the Baring and Houlton Road was read a second time and passed to be engrossed in concurrence. Adjourned until afternoon
