Division Orders, 8 Division -- Augusta, Nov. 30, 1808. The detachment of militia required from this Division by the General Orders of the 12 inst. for the service of the United States, will be furnished after [word crossed out] the following manner; that is to say [word "generally" crossed out] each brigade will give one battalion of infantry & each regiment one company, proportionate to its strength, respectively, & properly officered. the 1. brigade will give a major, & the commissioned [underlined?] regimental staff, except the adjutant, & the 2. brigade a colonel, a major, & the noncommissioned [underlined?] staff. These two battalions will form one detached regiment, & Colo. William Jones of the 2. brigade, will command it [words crossed out]; & the artillery by the 1. brigade. --A more minute detail of the infantry, rank & file is subjoined. Such officers & men as have been assigned for the detachment required the last year, will be passed in making this, as having performed their tour of duty. But the adjutants [underlined] of the standing regiments, as well as the clerks [underlined] of the standing companies, being the state's organs of communication, will be exempt from all detached duty, excepting when the whole regiment or company shall be detached. The commandants of the local regiments & companies will each be held responsible for the proportion of officers & men respectively laid thereon; & the former will complete the arrangement [word crossed out] & organization of them into companies within their respective regiments, with all possible dispatch, armed, equipped, enrolled, inspected & returned as required by the General Orders aforesaid, ready to march at a moment's warning.
