Petition of the President and Directors of Lincoln Bank on the subject of a repeal of the law requiring the use of Check Plate upon the back of Bank Bills, came from the Senate referred to the Committee on Banks & Banking for concurrence - and the House concurred.

Petition of Josiah H Hobbs and of Isaac Farrar & others referred in this House on the 13th inst. to the Committee on Manufactures, came from the Senate nonconcurred & referred to the Committee on Turnpikes, Bridges & Canals - and the House concurred.

Petition of Neal D Shaw & als to be incorporated, for the purpose of improving the Schoodic river, for the driving of logs, came from the Senate referred to the Committee on Turnpikes, Bridges & Canals for concurrence & the House concurred.

Petition of Nathan Nutter & others a committee of the first Universalist Society in Portland, praying for an act making valid the doings of said Society, came from the Senate referred to the committee on the Judiciary for concurrence, and the House concurred.

Agreeably to assignment the House of Representatives proceeded on its part to the election by ballot of a Senator to the Congress of the United States to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of Peleg Sprague, - and Messrs Woodman of Buxton, Washburn of Livermore, Weeks of Jefferson, Burleigh of Dexter, & Coolidge of Solon were appointed a committee to receive, sort & count the votes, who having attended to the duty assigned them reported that the whole number of ballots given in, was One hundred and seventy seven - necessary to constitute an election eighty nine - John Ruggles had One hundred and seven votes, George Evans had sixty three votes, Daniel Goodenow had two
