I received your note of yester- day, and thank you for your favorable opinion. I shall endeavor to comply with your request, and see you to- morrow. Meantime let me say that I only want to be where I can best serve you. I do not wish to stand in the way of others -- especially of our gal- lant men on the Potomac.

I believe I can get together a thousand men in a very short time, and shall hold myself entirely on your Excellen- cry's errand in 10 days.
