June, Wednesday, 3. 1863. On guard to day and was on last night. It rained last night quite hard, one spell, and has been showering all day. I was relieved at 4 oclock this afternoon and came into quarters Wrote a letter and received one from home, at dark we had to saddle up our horses and sleep on our arms.

Thursday 4. In Camp to day nothing of eny consequence has taken place. The weather has been very hot to day. I received a couple of news papers from home this afternoon. We had an Inspection of horses at 4 oclock.P.M.

Friday, 5. We was in Camp to day until 4 oclock in the afternoon. then we had to go out and drill. We have got to drill twice a day now while we are in Camp. The weather has quite warm to day.

June, Saturday, 6. 1863. We had to go out and drill again this morning at 8 oclock. came in at 10 oclock and packed up and went on Picket. went out abought 3 miles on the Warrenton road. We have got to stand 3 days. There was a shower this afternoon at 4 oclock and the night was cool.

Sunday, 7. On Picket to day nothing of eny interest has taken place. The weather has been quite cool. Received a couple of letters this morning and I wrote one home.

Monday, 8. we was relieved from Picket this morning at 11 oclock and received marching Ordered. got into Camp and found the Regts all ready to march. Started at 1 oclock P.M. and marched to Kelleys Ford on the Rappahannock river etrrived there at dark and halted for night. We are going to cross the river in the morning. The word is now that Gen. Hooker has crossed the river and occupied Fredericksburg.
