68 July 31st
I was on guard to day. come off guard at night. Cannons has been fired to day. every half hour and to night 36 guns was fired to the Memory of Martin Van Burean Ex Presedent of the United States who died July 24th 1862. I wrote a letter to Skowhegan Maine to day.
August 1st
We formed a line this morning at 6 oclock and was reviewed by General Pope. In the after noon we drew some carbines and drilled with them and fired at the taget. at 6 oclock we had a dress parade.
