[page 32] Q. How long have you been there? A. Three years come May. Q. Do you remember any thing in reference to the scarcity of water last summer? A. Yes, I do. Q. When did it begin? A. I could not tell you. Q. When should you judge? A. I would not form any idea about the time the scarcity of water commenced. Q. Did it begin in Feb? Mr. Morrill:- When the witness doesn't seem to recollect perhaps you can show it by some other one. Dr. Butler:- I think he must have some remembrance Q. Did it begin in Feb.? Mr. Hill:- I don't think that is a fair question to ask, and I object to it Mr. Chairman. Dr. Butler:- If the witness is fitted to be an attendant there he can approach it some where near. Q. Was there any scarcity? A. Yes, I said there was. Q. To what extent was it? A. I told you I could not form any idea when the scarcity of water commenced. Q. I didn't ask you when. I asked you the extent of it. That is to say, did the waters fail in the pipes from the water-works? A. I suppose they did. We didn't draw water from those pipes, and I suppose they were furnishing from the reservoir on the hill if there was any.
