Yours recommending the consolidation of Companies G & K was received yesterday, and in answer would most respectfully state, that in justice to the officers of the Companies who have always done their duty nobly - as well as to the whole command, it would not be consistent for me to do so. I think there should be patriotism enough in the state of Maine to fill the regiment up to the maximum number without resorting to any such measures.
