The Joint Select Committee, to which were referred the "Bill to establish the Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts Rail Road Company," and also the "Bill to incorporate the Portland, Saco and Portsmouth Rail Road Company," reported that said Committee could not agree upon a statement of facts, and asked to be discharged from the further consideration of the whole subject, and accommended an adherence to the report of the Joint Standing Committee on Rail Roads and Canals, giving James Irish and others leave to bring in a Bill; and further recommend that the petition of Ethen Shepley and others be referred to the next Legislature - read and accepted in concurrence.
Bill to establish the Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts Rail Road Corporation, -"- concerning assignments (introduced in the House) -"- incorporating the Vassalborough Paper Manufacturing Company, (laid upon the table by Mr. Robinson) -"- additional to incorporate the Moosehead Dam Company (reported in a new draft by the Committee on the Judiciary) -"- additional to un act to prevent fraud in fire wood, bark or coal exposed for sale (reported in the House by the Committee on the Judiciary on an order relative to that subject) -"- authorizing the owners of marsh on Back Creek, in the town of Woolwich to erect a dike (reported in the House by the Committee on Interior Waters, on petition Peleg Tollman and others) severally read once and this afternoon at three o'clock assigned for a second reading.
