Duties--exercise supreme executive power in the State; serve as Commander-in-Chief of the Militia; nominate (civil and military) officers, unless otherwise provided for; give information to the Legislature regarding condition of the State and recommend measures; grant reprieves, pardons and commutations with advice and consent of the Council; report to the Legislature at each session.

Duties--advise the Governor in the executive branch of government.

Members--7 residents of this state chosen annually on the first Wednesday of January by joint ballot of the Senators and Representatives of the Convention. Election changed to biennial by R. 1879, c. 151.
