State of Maine Portland Wednesday May 31 1820 This being the day designated by the Constitution of the State of Maine for the assembling of the first Legislature thereof, the following gentlemen being regularly returned as Senators appeared in the Senate Chamber at 11 o'clock a.m. Viz. from the County of York Hon. From the County of Hancock Hon. Andrew Witham

From the County of Washington Hon. Jeremiah O'Brien

From the County of Kennebeck Hon. John Chandler " Joshua Gage " Timothy Boutelle

From the County of Oxford Hon. Samuel Small " James W. Ripley

From the County of Somerset Hon. John Moore " William Kendall

From the County of Penobscot Hon. William D. Williamson

At 1/2 past eleven o'clock the President of the Convention accompanied by the Secretary & Treasurer pro tempore, & attended by the Sheriff of Cumberland County came into the Senate Chamber and the gentlemen afore named took and subscribed the oaths prescribed by the Constitution to qualify them to discharge the duties of their office.
