The votes of Etna of Plantation No. 2 in the county of Penobscot were not returned into the Secretary's office thirty days before the first Wednesday of January; the copy of the list of votes of New Charleston in the same county not appearing to be attested by the Selectmen, have been rejected. All which is respectfully submitted. Thos. Bond per order.
The foregoing report was read & accepted.
[Chaplain elected] The Senate then proceeded agreeably to assignment to elect a Chaplain; - the whole number of votes given was 10, necessary to constitute an election 10; Rev. Thomas B. Ripley had 11 and was declared elected.
[Message to the House respecting choice of Senator] A message was then sent to the House of Representatives proposing a conversation of the two Houses this day at 11 oclock in the Representatives' chamber for the purpose of filling the vacancy in the Senate for Lincoln District; and informing the House that Edward Kelleran & Isaac G. Reed Esquires are the constitutional candidates.
[Message from the House concurring] A message from the House by Mr. Child, their Clerk. "Mr. President, the House concur with the Senate in their proposition for a convention of the two Houses this day at 11 oclock for the purpose of filling the vacancy in the Senate for Lincoln District".
